Recornect is a company that fits the current trend in health care institutions to personalize care. The company’s motto is: ‘Recovery by connecting people’. In other words with their products they would like to encourage a dialogue between a caregiver and a patient on what the patient is still able to do when they lose control instead of limiting the patient’s options. In order to reach this goal they created a Media Wall with their own software called GRASP. It is a touchscreen that is implemented in the walls. Their products have been implemented in psychiatric care, youth care and care for mentally disabled people. Now the company wants to expand their clientele. They want their software to be usable for people with dementia. This project was done with a team. The design case was to find a different interaction method with Recornect’s Mediawall that people with dementia can understand. Using tools I made a design proposition. This design proposition was created to add value to Recornect and create more value for the clients of Recornect.
I worked in a group to solve a case given by the company Recornect. To help us we were given tools and explanations on how to use them. The tools weren’t that difficult to learn but did require some time for me to connect them with each other. Luckily I did understand it by the time I needed them. While working with the tools, all the tools seemed to be mainly about giving the user a clearer overview of something which is not expected at the beginning of course. Beside the tools, working with a company was a first for me. However I did learn from this. It was obvious that certain values conflicted with each other and working around it would be difficult at times. I learned to identify values and their relations surrounding the product, allowing me to make lesser mistakes related to stakeholders not liking the product based on their perspective.Working with the group I found pleasant. The roles were clearly divided after each assignment and planning and organizing of the work went well.
